Peter Powlus

Peter Powlus’ teaching experience is diverse and extensive.

It includes several Performing Arts Magnet Schools throughout Georgia: Avondale High School/Dekalb County Performing Arts Magnet School, Pebblebrook High School/Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts, and Davidson Fine Arts High School in Augusta, GA.

He has frequently been a guest teacher/choreographer at the Georgia Governor's Honors Program and has participated in workshops throughout the region, including Greenville Ballet, Tennessee Dance Association, and the University of South Carolina Summer Dance Institute. Peter was the Jazz Dance instructor for the 1991 and 1996 Southeast Region RDA Festivals, where his singular technique and style were offered to hundreds of students from throughout the southeast. 

Peter has served the Georgia community as a member of the Georgia Council for the Arts Dance Panel for Organizational Grants and on the Greater Augusta Arts Council. He was recognized by GAAC with the Individual Artist of the Year Award for 2006, having been nominated by his peers. Peter served The Augusta Ballet as Associate Director and Resident Choreographer from 1994 until 2006.

He then assumed a role with the Augusta Players as Artistic Director for two years. He recently filled the role as the Fine Arts Conservatory Director at Augusta Preparatory Day School where he also taught Dance and Introduction to Drama through the conservatory, as well as contributing choreography to the Upper School musical productions.

Peter also served on the Jazz and Tap faculty of the Augusta Ballet School for 18 years.
